FloorView

FloorView

Why a new FloorView?

The original implementation of the FloorViewer didn't account for the customization of layers, so the goal with this feature was to be able to configure new data layers in real time or a historical range.

Here's a little look into what we were redesigning. Layers were predetermined and the user could toggle them up in the top left corner. There was a "Stats" bar carousel at the bottom that allowed users to scroll though different timespans of occupancy or energy data. The right hand panel allowed for control of devices within a space. Opening the FloorBuilder was hidden a bit at the bottom right corner.

The ability to quickly toggle to another floor plan was one of my favorite parts of this redesign. Before the user would need to exit the floor plan view, navigate to the desired floor and then restart the floor view. Does the layer concept seem familiar? Hiding and showing floor overlays was inspired by design software. There is also an ability to "link" rooms to the plan that have been added recently. My hatred of carousels prompted moving the metrics to a side drawer that allows a quick toggle through time spans. A common piece of user feedback to be able to see data in bucketed spans.

This was a concept of where I would have liked the FloorView to go. To have insights built in to the visual would allow users to see a quick breakdown of how energy was used in different spaces with a total and then room by room. We added a color picker to be able to choose the hex value of a floor so users could customize the color of areas to the type of space on the visualization.
